With all of the uncertainty in the world, we want to address potential concerns about our Little Free Garden project amidst the COVID-19 health crisis.

As of today, not a single positive case of COVID-19 has been linked to food, and according to experts, food is not a vector for COVID-19. It’s a little confusing, but here is a wonderful article from Serious Eats answering all the food-related COVID-19 questions (i.e. What if someone coughs on my food?).

As many studies have shown, gardening is beneficial for physical, mental, and emotional health. Due to record levels of layoffs and food insecurity, the upcoming growing season could present the greatest need to make fresh produce available to all in our respective communities.

We are recommending all Little Free Garden owners observe the following safety precautions to minimize the potential spread of COVID-19 this season:

  1. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before working in the garden

  2. Always wear gloves while working in a Little Free Garden

  3. Do not work in the garden if you are feeling ill or showing signs of illness.

  4. Print this yard sign and place this sign next to your Little Free Garden

A NOTE TO EXISTING OWNERS: If you do not feel comfortable planting your Little Free Garden this year, we can temporarily suspend your registration. We will remove your ID from the Little Free Garden map, and you can simply remove your placard so it is not designated as free for picking this year. Please send us an email and we will temporarily suspend your garden registration.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and share any additional thoughts or ideas you have on our Little Free Garden Facebook Owners group
